Royna McNamara
Royna McNamara is a conductor and music educator with significant experience leading music tours to Western Europe.
Royna has a Bachelor of Music (Music Education) from the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney, where she was awarded the prize for Outstanding Final Year Student and would go on to study for a Masters of Education. In the course of her Masters program, Royna was awarded a scholarship in order to complete her research on music performance practices.
An experienced conductor, Royna studied with Jerry Nowak and has conducted numerous concerti with highly-regarded musicians such as Joshua Tsai and Simon Tedeschi. She has significant expertise as a choral conductor and has travelled extensively in Western Europe with choral and instrumental ensembles, performing in venues such as Notre Dame (Paris), St Mark’s Basilica (Venice), Canterbury Cathedral and at Lambeth Palace.
Royna was the Director of Music at Abbotsleigh for twenty years. She has consulted on music education to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and the NSW Association of Independent Schools, and been a sessional lecturer at the University of Sydney and UNSW, Sydney.
