Robert VEEL

We are saddened to report the passing of Robert Veel in early October 2023.

Robert Veel was a director of Limelight Arts Travel and co-publisher of Limelight magazine. He was also one of Australia’s most experienced cultural tour leaders.

Robert had a BA in Italian and a Masters of Education from the University of Sydney, where he also lectured for several years. He led his first tour to Italy in 1990 for the University of Sydney’s Centre for Continuing Education, and later became its deputy director.

In 2004 he co-founded Academy Travel, where for 17 years he designed and led tours to Italy, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Taiwan, Turkey, the United States and within Australia.

Italy held a special place in Robert’s heart, and for the last years of his life he spent a significant amount of time in his apartment in his beloved Venice.
