*** Preliminary Itinerary ***

Enjoy a feast of performances in three great musical cities and delight in the festive wintry atmosphere of Vienna, Salzburg and Prague

OVERVIEW

The festive season in Europe is a delight: Christmas markets, picture-postcard towns surrounded by snow-covered peaks, and, of course, performances appropriate to the season. This 15-day tour brings you the best of Austria and Prague at this special time of year, with a carefully-curated program of performances complemented by special Christmas and New Year’s Eve events, and a touring program focused on the region’s rich musical legacy.

The tour begins with four nights in Salzburg, where we get to know the town of Mozart’s birth and early career, as well as visiting the villages where Silent Night was composed and first performed. We then travel via the delightful town of Český Krumlov to Prague for four nights, where we explore this beautifully situated historic city with its multiple towers and spires and its famous Charles Bridge spanning the fast-flowing Moldau (Vltava) river.

The tour is rounded out by six nights in Vienna, where we enjoy excellent musical performances and investigate the extraordinary musical history of the Habsburg capital, before bringing in the New Year with Beethoven’s Ninth, champagne and panoramic views of Vienna’s amazing city-wide firework displays.

Your tour leader is well-known music lecturer and popular tour leader Robert Gay.
